Director's Note
Let's Make a Difference
National Make a Difference Day is this Saturday, October 25th. It’s a day dedicated to the simple, profound idea that every single person has the power to change the world—one act of kindness, one moment of service, or one genuine connection at a time.
More Than Just Artistry
As members of the North East School of the Arts (NESA) community, we are dedicated to the pursuit of artistry. Whether you tell stories through the powerful movements of dance, the dramatic arcs of theater, the resonance of music, the vivid strokes of paint and charcoal, or the structure of writing, your core purpose is to impact others.
But let’s remember that the incredible ability you have to make a difference extends far beyond the stage or the canvas. Your true art of impact is the person you are outside your chosen artform.
The Everyday Masterpieces I want to encourage everyone to take a moment this month—and especially on October 25th—to actively think about the positive differences you make in other people's lives every day.
Making a difference doesn’t always require a grand gesture; often, it’s the quiet, consistent acts of humanity that resonate the most. You can make an undeniable impact through:
Volunteering your time and talent to a cause you believe in.
Being an example for others—showing integrity, persistence, and kindness.
Listening to someone without judging them, offering a safe space for them to be heard.
Something as simple, yet profound, as a genuine smile or a word of encouragement.
NESA students and families are truly some of the most wonderful humans I have had the privilege of meeting in my life. You consistently embody the spirit of service, creativity, and empathy. The compassion and dedication you show to one another and to your community prove that you already live the values of National Make a Difference Day every day.
Let’s use October 25th as a collective moment to amplify that wonderful energy. Go out, make an impact, and create a masterpiece in someone's day!
Warmly,
Marisol Askey
