Director's Note

Let's Keep the LOVE

School is in full swing, and what a wonderful start it's been! The past few weeks have been a celebration of connection and creativity. I've seen the most glorious reunions, heard beautiful music, and read phenomenal poetry. And don't even get me started on Movie Trivia Night (pictured above)—if you missed it, you missed out on some serious fun! It's been truly incredible to witness all the positive energy buzzing in our halls.

But as the initial excitement of a new school year settles, we're starting to hear the inevitable whispers of drama and rumors. This is a common challenge, but it’s one we can face together.

At our school, we encourage everyone to T.H.I.N.K. before they speak. It's a simple tool that helps us navigate our interactions with intention and kindness.

T - Is it True? Before you share information, ask yourself if it's based on fact or just a rumor. Spreading gossip can be incredibly hurtful, even if it's unintentional.

H - Is it Helpful? Will what you're saying add value to the conversation or just create noise? Focusing on productive communication helps build stronger relationships.

I - Is it Inspiring? Do your words build people up or tear them down? The goal is to be a positive influence and contribute to a supportive community.

N - Is it Necessary? Not every thought needs to be said aloud. Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is listen.

K - Is it Kind? This is the most important step. Consider whether your words are compassionate and respectful, no matter the situation.

A Message for Parents

Parents, please take some time to talk with your children about the harm of rumors and gossip. Help them understand that words have power and can cause real pain. Encouraging them to use the T.H.I.N.K. acronym can provide a practical framework for making good choices.

A Message for Students

Students, we're all human, and we'll all make mistakes. If you find that you've said something mean or untrue, especially in a moment of frustration or as a joke that went too far, own it. Taking responsibility for your actions is a sign of true maturity. A sincere apology followed by a change in behavior is what truly matters.

Let’s all work together to keep our school a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued. By choosing our words carefully, we can ensure the positive energy in our community continues to thrive.

Celebrating Student Voice and Leadership

This past Monday, our very own Devin Taylor was honored by Superintendent Sean Maika and the NEISD School Board at the monthly board meeting. Devin, along with other student representatives from across the district, was recognized for her outstanding participation in a student panel at this year's Convocation in August.

Convocation is an annual event that brings together over 700 teachers and administrators to kick off the new school year. The student panel, led by Dr. Maika, was a highlight of the event. Devin and the other students demonstrated incredible bravery, wit, and humor as they took the stage to answer questions about their school experiences.

NESA chose our representative well. Devin's thoughtful and insightful answers were truly eye-opening for many teachers and administrators in the audience. Her perspective helped reinforce the importance of listening to and learning from our students. We are incredibly proud of Devin for representing NESA with such poise and distinction.

Congratulations, Devin! We are so grateful for your leadership and for sharing your voice with our community.
