Director's Note

I need to invest in Kleenex stock...

I’ll be the first to admit it: I tried to stay composed during Footnotes this weekend. I really did. I held it together right up until Sunday’s performance, but the moment our seniors stepped out in those red outfits and moved across the stage? I lost it. Crystal, if you’re reading this, just know you weren’t the only one reaching for the tissues!

The artistry on display was nothing short of phenomenal. From the way Summertime seemed to simply float through the air, to the absolute fire of Gaga, and the tour de force that was Mr. Cellophane—it was a masterclass in movement. And to be completely honest? I have spent years detesting the song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." But after seeing our dancers breathe life into it and transform it into something so much more, I’m a convert. Now, every time I hear it, I’ll see your faces. It just goes to show: Art really does change lives. 😉

Looking Ahead: The "Organized Chaos" of Playoffs

If you’re still catching your breath from Footnotes, get ready, because this weekend we dive headfirst into Playoffs! If you’ve never attended, prepare yourself for a wild, wonderful ride.

Our Creative Writing students have spent weeks writing, casting, and directing their own original 10-minute plays. To make it happen, we’ll be utilizing two stages simultaneously. Here is what you need to know:

  • The Format: Plays run back-to-back on both stages.
  • The Strategy: Because of the dual-stage setup, if you want to see every single production, you’ll need to attend two different showings.
  • The Energy: It is nothing short of "organized chaos." Between the brilliance and humor on stage and the frenetic energy behind the scenes—where students are sprinting between stages to swap costumes and makeup—it’s a spectacle in its own right.

Seeing these young creators take the reins always reassures me that our future is in very capable (and very funny) hands. Run, don't walk, to nesa.booktix.com to grab your tickets. You won’t want to miss it.

A Note on Our Unsung Heroes

Finally, it is important to remember that neither Footnotes nor Playoffs would be possible without the tireless work of our Tech Theater majors. They are the engine that keeps this school running.

When you see those kiddos dressed in all black this week, please stop them and let them know how incredible they are. Their talent may be behind the scenes, but their impact is center stage.

See you at the theater!
